If your penis could talk, just imagine for a moment just what it may say to its owner operator.
Would it hate you? Be proud of you? Give you a heads up on ‘issues’? Maybe all three and plenty more.
That’s the premise of “Conversations (with my penis)”, the debut show from Christchurch’s Bare Bones Theatre Collective on June 19th and 20th.
Playwright Dean Hewison originally wrote Conversations for the New Zealand Comedy Gala a few years back. The play speaks openly and honestly about lots of the issues men seem to steer away from. Who better to chat about your STI with than the prime sufferer? How else might you hear the real reason behind that growing lack of ‘performance’?
Conor Hill plays the guy and Beth Gibson takes on the daunting and certainly novel role as his penis. The play traverses the man’s life, the conversations marking milestones or incidents through his life. It raises important and real points, and like Men’s Health Week, aims to spread awareness of these and how to get help without stigma or shame.
Men’s health comes in all shapes and forms, and so can come awareness of the importance of being on top of our health. Conversations (with my penis) is one novel and welcome channel for this awareness to be shared.
